Experience stunning views while hiking on the Fellhorn and Kanzelwand
In the two-country region in the Allgäu between Germany and Austria, you'll cross very special borders. You can safely forget about a passport at the Fellhorn and Kanzelwand, as the peaks connect the Austrian Kleinwalsertal and the German Allgäu without any border controls. While hiking on the Fellhorn and Kanzelwand, you'll stroll through lush meadows full of mountain flowers, past babbling streams, and can take a break at clear mountain lakes. See as far as possible: From both the 2,036-meter-high Kanzelwand and the Fellhorn summit at 2,037 meters, hikers can gaze all around across the Allgäu Alps and far into the Kleinwalsertal valley. From the respective mountain stations of the Fellhornbahn or Kanzelwandbahn, well-maintained hiking trails lead to the highest points, allowing leisurely hikers, beginners, and hiking families to enjoy this unique view. The different geological characteristics of these two sister peaks – the ruggedness of the Kanzelwand and the flower-filled gentleness of the Fellhorn – make both summit climbs an experience.

On the Fellhorn, families prefer hiking trail 12, which starts at the picturesque Schlappoldsee lake. At the end of the lake, a path leads through flower meadows toward Germany's highest alpine pasture. Children especially enjoy hiking here, because at the Schlappoldalpe, many animals are waiting to be petted. Adults can enjoy a snack on the sun terrace or buy some spicy mountain cheese: In addition to cheese, the Schlappoldalpe also sells delicious ham and other types of sausage. The return tour follows the same route. The well-maintained trail is also suitable for a hike with a stroller. When hiking in Oberstdorf:/link/content/100741 and in Kleinwalsertal, our cable cars transport strollers to the summit free of charge.
*Of course, most of the hiking trails on the Kanzelwand and Fellhorn can also be started from any other starting point and can be varied in length. For more detailed information, see the respective routes.
