The Walsersteig: Easy via ferrata on the Kanzelwand
The via ferrata on the Kanzelwand, the Walsersteig, was built as an exciting and easy alternative to the Two-Country Sport Via Ferrata. Especially in the summer months, many recreational climbers take to the Kanzelwand adventure via ferrata, as it is ideal for beginners. Course groups from the Kleinwalsertal Mountain School also visit this via ferrata several times a week. From the summit, you'll be treated to a breathtaking panoramic view of the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps. What are you waiting for? Put on your climbing gear and let's go!
Access & route of the Kanzelwand adventure via ferrata
Via ferrata beginners who would like to finally try the experience can easily reach the Walsersteig / Adventure Via Ferrata with the Kanzelwandbahn. From the mountain station, follow the Kanzelwand signpost for about 15 minutes. Shortly after a scree field, you will see the wire rope on the left side of the rock: the entrance – directly on the wide path (signpost) – of the Kanzelwand via ferrata.
The Kanzelwand Adventure Via Ferrata offers an exciting, varied route with strong wire ropes. The via ferrata route begins with a stepped ascent over larger boulders and then leads over a grassy ledge. At a corner, the trail continues to the rope bridge, one of the highlights of the tour. After the bridge, the trail runs under the wall (difficulty C) and ends with a short ascent (difficulty B) that leads almost to the summit of the Kanzelwand at 2058 meters. On well-paved paths, you then return to the mountain station in around 30 minutes, past the start of the Walsersteig.
The via ferrata has a moderate level of difficulty (B-C), which makes it ideal for beginners who want to take their first steps at a height secured by a steel cable. The via ferrata should only be attempted with suitable via ferrata equipment. For more useful information, we have summarized further tips for via ferrata climbing
