Winter hiking on the Ifen: the most beautiful tours
Are you looking for sporting challenges with a breathtaking panorama or want to experience snowy fun with your family? In either case, the Ifen is the perfect place for you. For winter hiking, our cable cars take you directly to the starting points of the snowy trails. From there, you can enjoy fantastic views in our two-country hiking region:
- Winter hiking across the Gottesacker: This circular hiking trail runs at an altitude of 2,000 meters, making it the highest winter hiking trail in Kleinwalsertal accessible by train. The cable car takes you up to well-groomed paths amidst an enchanting, tranquil world of ice. You then cross the invisible border between Germany and Austria on your 5 km hike. If you want to enjoy the special atmosphere on the shorter 3 km option, return to the starting point halfway through. The Gottesacker, hidden beneath the snow, is a geological gem and guarantees an impressive hiking experience even in summer.
- Winter hike to the Hahnenköpfle: The Ifen II cable car takes you to the mountain station, where a fascinating winter hiking trail starts. Rugged mountain cliffs and the snow-covered Gottesacker plateau offer a unique view at over 2,000 meters, stretching as far as the Bregenz Forest and Lake Constance. To the northeast, Oberstdorf's mountain peaks line the Oberstdorf valley basin, from the Sonnenkopf, Rubihorn, and Höfats to the Trettach in the southeast. The massive peak of the Hochvogel is clearly visible above, even in winter. Hikers here can experience one of the most beautiful winter panoramas in Kleinwalsertal and the Oberallgäu. The snow-covered summit of the Hahnenköpfle is located directly above the mountain station and can be reached via an increasingly steep climb. Caution is advised on the saddle: the icy surfaces are only suitable for hikers with the right footwear and sufficient surefootedness.
Winter hiking on the Ifen with young and old
Despite its height and striking terrain, the Ifen is a delight for winter hikers of all ages. The Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal cable cars will take you comfortably and safely to our mostly well-groomed trails. Here you'll find easy hiking trails for families with children and seniors.
