Duration: approx. 2.5 hours.
After leaving the mountain station, most of the hiking trails lead to a mountain saddle just below it. Here, it's worth enjoying the view of the Fellhorn region once again before descending into the mountain basin towards Riezlern. After just a short while, you'll find yourself on the summer pastures of the Zwerenalpe. After passing under the ski lift of the same name, we continue a short distance along the Zweren stream before the Zwerenalpe farmstead becomes visible just above.
Zwerenalpe
A short detour is worthwhile for those interested! The alpine pasture, first mentioned in 1574, consists of a total of 5 huts and a small chapel. For a long time, the mountain settlement was inhabited by farming families who looked after their own livestock – a total of around 70 cows – and produced cheese and butter together. Today, the mountain settlement is uninhabited except for a few weekends a year.
View of the Kleinwalsertal
Below the Walser mountain farming settlement, the well-paved alpine road continues towards the valley. The final few meters of the small high valley become somewhat more wooded. High above, the gondolas of the Kanzelwandbahn cable car can be seen. Shortly before we reach the Riezler Höhenweg, the trees thin out, revealing a lovely view of Riezlern and the Kleinwalsertal. The descent to the valley station turns left from here towards the so-called Kessler lift. The final few meters of the path lead parallel to the Zwerenalpbach stream back to the cable car station.
