Depending on your summit goal, we recommend taking the Fellhorn or Kanzelwandwahn cable car to the mountain station. From there, well-paved, signposted ascents lead toward the summits. Due to their different geological structures, the two mountains have very different characteristics.
Flower-rich Fellhorn
The ascent to the Fellhorn summit, which takes about 15 minutes, begins directly at the cable car mountain station. Along the earthy path, you can marvel at a unique variety of colorful mountain flowers. The basis for these lush mountain meadows up to the summit is the layer of soil from which the Fellhorn is formed. The so-called flysch layers of slate, clay, and marly material are particularly fertile. Once at the summit, a 360° panoramic view of the Allgäu Alps ensures true summit bliss.
Rugged Kanzelwand
To ascend the Kanzelwand, you first have to descend a short distance from the cable car station to a saddle. From there, the trail leads via several switchbacks to the Kanzelwand summit in about half an hour. In contrast to the more gentle Fellhorn, the Kanzelwand summit area features a predominantly rugged and rocky mountain landscape made of Hauptdolomite. In terms of summit views, however, the Kanzelwand is in no way inferior to its neighbor.
For mountaineers, both peaks offer the opportunity to hike back to the cable car area via a circular route through alpine terrain. Those who don't meet the necessary requirements should, to be on the safe side, descend the same way back to the cable car. A wide selection of well-maintained trails can be found here.
