A visit to the Fellhorn summit or a hike across the Fellhorn ridge guarantees one of the most scenic and comfortable mountain experiences in the Allgäu Alps. The Fellhorn cable car takes you effortlessly to the starting point of the well-maintained and short summit climb. For hikers who want to take a short excursion to the ridge and then descend to the cable car mid-station, the descent to Schlappoldsee, located halfway between the Fellhorn summit and the Schlappoldkopf, is an ideal option.
Short Climax
After a rewarding stay at the Fellhorn summit, the mountain trail, which now becomes alpine, leads steeply downhill for a short stretch to the ridge of the same name. On the western side of the breezy ridge, which at times drops steeply and grassily into the Kleinwalsertal valley, the path is secured with steel cables for several meters. Immediately afterward, however, the ridge widens again and the terrain flattens.
A Kingdom of Flowers and Panoramas
The following short ridge hike and the descent to Schlappoldsee should be enjoyed to the fullest. It's rare to see such a beautiful mountain panorama combined with such botanical diversity. About halfway up the Schlappoldkopf, the descent leads to the right, into the basin of Schlappoldsee. From the Alpenrose to the Gentian, the basin is filled with a unique, colorful variety of often rare alpine flowers. Passing the picturesque Schlappoldsee, the mountain trail meets the connecting path between the Schlappoldalpe and the mid-station of the same name. Back at the cable car station, the Schlappoldsee mountain inn invites you to a cozy stop. The culinary offerings in the mid-station area leave nothing to be desired.
