Breathtaking views while winter hiking on the Nebelhorn
At 2,224 meters, the Nebelhorn is the highest mountain you can reach with our cable cars during Winter Hiking in the Allgäu and in Kleinwalsertal. Varied routes through the snow and magnificent views await you here – it's not for nothing that Oberstdorf's local mountain is called the Grandstand of the Alps.
Winter hiking on scenic trails on the Nebelhorn
On a winter hike, you'll experience the tranquility of nature combined with state-of-the-art technology: Since May 2021, the modern 10-seater gondola lifts of the Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal Bergbahnen have been transporting hikers up the Nebelhorn even faster and more comfortably. It takes you directly up to the Höfatsblick station. From there, our fantastic winter trails on the Nebelhorn begin. Want to go even higher? Then hop on the summit cable car and let your gaze wander over the two-country hiking region.
- Path to Zeigersattel: The Zeigersattel is one of the most captivating viewpoints that winter hiking around Oberstdorf has to offer. Starting from the Höfatsblick mountain station, a well-groomed path leads you there, leading out of the Nebelhornbahn ski area behind the Edmund Probst House. Where just a moment ago you could hear party music from the Gemsnest ski bar or the ski turns of energetic skiers, it is now pleasantly quiet. Short breaks invite you to enjoy the beautiful views over the Faltenbach Valley down to Oberstdorf – a small foretaste of what awaits at the end of the winter hike. After a short and gentle climb, you reach the Zeigersattel. There, a fantastic view opens up over the deeply snow-covered landscape of the majestic Allgäu Alps. The Höfats, also called the Queen of the Allgäu Alps, is just one of countless impressive mountain peaks that you won't soon get tired of.
- North Face Trail: Circumnavigate the Nebelhorn summit and enjoy impressive views down below and across the Nebelhorn North Face. After leaving the summit cable car, you'll head through a tunnel directly to the North Face Trail. With the help of an impressive, barrier-free steel structure attached to the wall, you can circumnavigate the entire summit area in 100 meters. The view of the Allgäu region isn't the only thing that will amaze you here: From here, your gaze will sweep 600 meters down along the high Nebelhorn North Face.
- High-Altitude Panorama Trail: The high-altitude panoramic trail at the Nebelhornbahn mountain station offers fantastic views of the Allgäu mountains. It starts at the cable car mountain station, where, with a little luck, after a few meters, you might spot a snowcat or two. If the weather conditions are suitable for paragliding, you might also catch a glimpse of colorful paragliders or watch the gondolas enter and exit. Among the many other attractions, the mountain panorama of the snow-covered Allgäu Alps and the view of the white valley basin of Oberstdorf remain the undisputed highlights of this well-groomed circular trail. During short ascents and descents, as well as a few curves, this impressive view will captivate you again and again.
