Winter in the middle of the Alps: Winter hiking trails on the Fellhorn
In our two-country hiking region, varied high-altitude trails lead along impressive mountains. Winter hiking in the Allgäu and in Kleinwalsertal becomes a comfortable and safe enjoyable experience thanks to the Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal cable cars. On the Fellhorn, you can enjoy a relaxing hike with breathtaking views, even in the snow.
Winter hiking trails on Fellhorn/Kanzelwand
At 2,037 and 2,058 meters above sea level, the Allgäu mountains Fellhorn and Kanzelwand rise on the German-Austrian border. Wrapped in their white winter coats, they offer both exhilarating skiing and peaceful hikes.
The groomed winter hiking trail on the Fellhorn starts at the mid-station. This easy winter hike leads to the snow-covered Schlappoldsee, hidden beneath a deep layer of snow in a basin between the Fellhorn summit and the Schlappoldkopf. The climb continues toward the Schlappold Alpe. Shortly before reaching the summit, the trail curves, as the alpine pasture has been located in an avalanche-prone basin since an avalanche accident in 1951. High above the Stillach Valley, the beautiful panoramic view extends from the Allgäu main ridge in the south over the Himmelschrofengrat to the neighboring Nebelhorn Ski Area far to the northeast above Oberstdorf. From Schlappoldsee, the snowy path leads back to the station.
Gastronomic experiences after the winter hike on Fellhorn/Kanzelwand
With the Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal cable cars, hikers can travel quickly and safely up high in our two-country hiking region. Easy, well-prepared paths for families with children and seniors invite you to relax, play and marvel at the Fellhorn.
After your winter hike above Oberstdorf, a wide variety of culinary options await you at the mountain stations of the cable cars. Enjoy a strudel in the Panoramarestaurant Kanzelwand or a regional antipasti platter and Vorarlberg schnapps in the Hammerspitzbar. On the Fellhorn, you can warm up in the Restaurant Fellhorn Mittelstation or in the Gipfelrestaurant Fellhorn.
