Kanzelwand valley run: More space. More snow. More enjoyment.
We're removing the last bottleneck on the Kanzelwand valley run – the spot that has been jokingly called the "Mayor's Corner" in the valley for many years.
Where mayors learned to fly
Why this name? The story has now reached legendary status: A former mayor of Kleinwalsertal – also chairman of the mountain railways – wanted to personally inspect a construction project at this spot. Because he couldn't ski with his wooden leg, he simply had the crew take him down to the valley in an Akia (the rescue sled). That was the plan. But it was at this exact spot that the team lost their line: the sled tipped over, and the mayor tumbled out. Fortunately, everything turned out well, but since then the passage has been nicknamed "Mayor's Corner" – affectionately and with a wink.
This section will now be made approximately twice as wide – for more space, more safety, and more skiing pleasure. We are continuing what we started in 2014/15: Back then, an avalanche gallery was built below the Bürgermeistereck – since then, the area hasn't had to be closed once. Other sections of the valley run have also been widened. Now comes the final quality boost.
Better snow – for safe skiing pleasure
And to ensure this fun remains safe even in changeable conditions, we are modernizing the entire snowmaking system along the entire valley run – from the Kanzelwand mountain station to the base station. By combining natural snow and state-of-the-art technical snowmaking, we ensure optimal piste conditions – precise, resource-efficient, and proactively managed. For you, this means: guaranteed snow when it matters – and the best conditions from the first to the last turn.
What does this mean for you? One of the most beautiful runs in the valley is getting even better:
✓ More space on the slopes
✓ Smoother lines
✓ State-of-the-art snowmaking for consistent quality
✓ And: the good feeling of being safe on the slopes – at the top and at the bottom.
Winter as it should be – on the Kanzelwand valley run.
Even more attractive. Even safer. Even more fun.
For all technology fans: What exactly are we doing?
In addition to widening the slopes at Bürgermeistereck, the snowmaking system on the Zwerenalpiste, which dates back to 1988 and 1998, is being upgraded. A new transformer station was built in fall 2024, and eight snowmaking shafts were replaced.
- In the 2025 construction phase, a further 21 snowmaking shafts will be renewed and partially relocated, enabling faster and more efficient basic snowmaking.
- As part of this, the ski road will be rerouted to the "rear slope" to bypass the extremely steep "Zirbe" and "Adlerhorst" sections and create better pastures.
- In addition, the slope area from the Zwerenalp valley station towards the valley run will be widened to approximately 300 meters and adapted to the 2015 construction phase.
- The goal of these two measures is to make snowmaking significantly more efficient, faster, and, above all, more resource-efficient in all areas in the future. The slope construction in the "Bürgermeistereck / Kreinerwand" and "Zwerenalpe valley station / valley run" areas will not only ensure reliable snow cover, but also provide a higher-quality slope offering.*
