Climate-friendly slope maintenance
To perfectly prepare the diverse slopes, the snow groomers in the two-country ski region travel several thousand kilometers per year and, like any combustion engine, generate emissions. Reducing these emissions is the major goal of the mountain railway association:
By using palm oil-free HVO fuel, we avoid approximately 1,800 tons of carbon dioxide per season!
This biofuel, based on plant waste and hydrogen, reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90 percent and is readily biodegradable in the event of a (unlikely) spill on the slopes. Since the beginning of 2022, the snow groomers on the Nebelhorn have been running on HVO fuel. Now all other OK Bergbahnen snow groomers are following suit! With this switch to HVO fuel, we are the largest mountain railway operator in the DACH region to consistently take this step. We are supported in this project by Keslar GmbH Energiehandel and Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG.
Further advantages
In addition to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, HVO fuel offers even more advantages: This promising fuel is low-odor and, thanks to its biodegradability, poses no threat to the environment in the event of a spill on the slopes.
