The upgrade of the new family run on the Fellhorn demonstrates that the OBERSTDORF · KLEINWALSERTAL BERGBAHNEN are aware of their responsibility. Upgrading instead of new construction is the motto to protect nature while still guaranteeing fun for children.
Simply awesome!
The OBERSTDORF · KLEINWALSERTAL BERGBAHNEN mastered the balancing act between new mountain experiences for guests and giving nature a break with flying colors with the family run on the Fellhorn, which was built in 2018. The German ski resort is a real hotspot for active winter sports enthusiasts. To ensure that the little ones can ski down the slopes just as easily as the adults, the decision was made to create a wider and flatter family run. Instead of polluting the environment with the construction of a new piste, the existing route between the Kanzelwandhaus and the Höfle station was upgraded. The work was carried out in close coordination with the responsible authorities and with the involvement of an ecological construction supervisor. And the effort paid off, because now the path from the Fellhornbahn II mountain station to the Höfle station is clear for fun on the slopes in preserved nature.
Model Nature: Herzsee Project
Like the Colosseum in Rome, Mother Nature is the ultimate tourism highlight in the two-country region. At the same time, it serves as a model for construction projects. With the reservoir on the Ifen, the OBERSTDORF · KLEINWALSERTAL BERGBAHNEN are proving that with sustainable and ecological construction methods, renovations in nature don't have to be conspicuous.
Built with Environmental Consciousness: An Oasis in the Countryside
Idyllic and tranquil, framed by green grass and mighty fir trees, the Herzsee lies below the Auenhütte on the Ifen mountain. In winter, the reservoir provides fun on the slopes, while in summer, its surface reflects the surrounding mountains, inviting you to take a break on one of the numerous benches along the shore. It blends naturally into its surroundings, leaving little to suspect that the reservoir was only created in 2016. "It was particularly important to us to integrate the Herzsee into the landscape as naturally as possible, so that visitors recognize it not as a reservoir, but as a mountain lake," explains Dr. Andreas Gapp, CEO of OBERSTDORF · KLEINWALSERTAL BERGBAHNEN. As a prime example of ecological construction, environmentally friendly and sustainable construction measures characterized all work on the lake. For example, the tree trunks that were carefully lifted out during the excavation now serve as pleasant seating directly by the water. The meadow was also reused: Carefully and carefully removed, the construction workers then replanted the turf at the end. According to geographer Thomas Dietmann, who has overseen the rehabilitation from the very beginning, the construction of the reservoir is a completely successful project. The Herzsee is one of the best examples of environmentally friendly construction in the Bavarian Alps. Hardly anyone recognizes anymore that it is a man-made lake. This is how ecological construction works for the OBERSTDORF · KLEINWALSERTAL BERGBAHNEN: modeled on nature.
