From the initial idea to build a cable car to its opening, four years passed. In 1966, the time had finally come: For the first time, it was possible to take a cable car up to the Walmendingerhorn.
| 1962 | Initial considerations are made regarding the construction of a railway from Mittelberg to the Walmendingerhorn. |
| 1963 | In preparation for the Walmendingerhorn Railway project, the share capital of Kanzelwandbahn AG is increased to 2 million DM. |
| 1964 | Construction work begins on April 27, after the railway was approved on February 25. |
| Construction is not proceeding as planned. Problems such as bad weather and other unforeseen events are causing delays. |
1966
Finally, the time has come: The new Walmendingerhorn cable car will begin operating on August 20th. It has a capacity of 480 people per hour. The construction costs amount to DM 7.818 million.
| 1967 | The cable car's offerings are now expanded with a mountain restaurant at the top station. Day ski passes are available for skiers for the first time. |
| 1968 | The steep Muttelberg lift begins operation and transports 1,000 people per hour. |
| 1969 | A ski pass for unlimited use of all cable cars and lifts in Kleinwalsertal is introduced. |
| 1971 | At the end of the year, the Walmendingerhorn cable car recorded a total of 1,173,324 passengers since it began operating. |
1972
With the Walmendingerhorn double chairlift from Doppelmayr, the first chairlift on the mountain has been installed. It has a capacity of 900 people per hour. Its construction opens up new ski runs.
| 1985 | A garage for the snow groomers is built at the mountain station. |
| 1988 | A 20 kV underground cable is installed and the sewage pipeline to the valley is completed. |
| 1989 | The previous board member, Walter Fritz, moves to the supervisory board. The new board members are Peter Krejci (Administration) and Fritz Engerer (Technology). |
| The entire electrical system in the railway area is being renewed for half a million DM. |
1994
Walter Fritz passed away on June 6th. The former board member of the then Kanzelwandbahn AG, and since its renaming in 1969 of the Kleinwalsertaler Bergbahn AG, and later chairman of the supervisory board, significantly influenced the work and development at the Walmendingerhorn for over 40 years.
Construction projects this year:
A snowmaking system is being built between support tower 1 and the valley station – the project is being carried out by Dr. Wechsler.
The double chairlift is being expanded to a capacity of 1000 people/hour.

| 1996 | A metal grating staircase is being built from the top station of the double chairlift to the top station of the Walmendingerhorn cable car. This will allow skiers to reach the restaurant and the gondola lift safely and comfortably. |
| 1997 | Consideration is being made to renovate the Muttelberg lift, and initial project studies are being conducted. |
| 1998 | At the end of the year, long-serving board member Peter Krejci retires. He was employed by the Kleinwalsertal mountain railway for 40 years (since April 1, 1957) and most recently held responsibility for the company's finances. Fritz Engerer will become the sole managing director. |
1999
The Muttelberg T-bar lift will be replaced by a fixed-grip four-seater chairlift with a capacity of 1,500 people per hour, 50% more than before. Construction costs amount to 3.1 million DM. The first day of operation is December 18th.
| 2000 | Board member Fritz Engerer is now also retiring. His successor will be Georg Fahrenschon. |
| 2001 | An "Alpine Flower Trail" is being built on the Walmendingerhorn: https://www.ok-bergbahnen.com/aktiv-sport/wandern/aktiv-sport-wandern-wandern-vorarlberg/wandern-walmendingerhorn/weg-1-natuerlicher-alpenblumenpfad-zum-gipfel.html. Together with Franz Felder and Hans Grabherr, Herbert Edlinger, the proprietor of the mountain restaurant, cataloged the flowers, clearly labeled them, and thus created another attractive highlight on the Horn. In the same year, an administrative consolidation at the Kanzelwand cable car was decided upon. Therefore, the office workstations were relocated from the Walmendingerhorn cable car to Riezlern. |
2006
The Walmendingerhorn cable car is getting a redesign:
- The valley station is being rebuilt and will have a modern look.
- The restaurant terrace is being expanded.
- A geo-platform and a sun wall are being built at the mountain station.
- The highlight is the panoramic elevator, which is not only visually striking but also greatly simplifies the route from the ski area to the cable car.
2026
The reconstruction of the Walmendingerhorn cable car is about to begin. Exactly 62 years later, the new building permit was granted. You can follow the current status of the construction site "here": https://www.ok-bergbahnen.com/unternehmen/qualitaetsmassnahmen/neubau-walmendingerhornbahn/
