Oberstdorf, April 18, 2024 – Nebelhornbahn AG looks back on an extremely successful 2022/23 fiscal year, which achieved a pleasing result despite challenging circumstances.
The 2022/23 fiscal year
Supervisory Board Chairman Michael Lucke gave a brief overview of the past fiscal year and drew an overall positive conclusion: "We can report a successful year. The course was characterized by seasons of varying success, with the winter business in particular suffering from difficult weather conditions. Nevertheless, thanks to a strong end-of-season spurt in the summer, Nebelhornbahn AG was able to record historically high visitor numbers, which led to an overall positive annual result."
A key success factor was the continuous development of the infrastructure, as well as the early recognition of conditions and the rapid implementation of measures. Of particular note are the efforts in the area of ecological sustainability, such as the introduction of 100% biofuels and the optimization of resource use in snowmaking.
Digitalization optimizes resources
Nebelhornbahn AG is also relying on digitalization to make internal processes more efficient and offer guests an improved customer experience. This includes, among other things, the redesigned online shop, which allows guests to conveniently book ski passes and cable car rides from home. The continuous improvement of resource management, combined with employee training and awareness-raising, has not only ecological but also business-related effects. In this way, ecology and economy can complement each other. "Our focus is always on the qualitative development of our offerings for our guests. Furthermore, it is important to us to offer our employees a modern and safe workplace," says Henrik Volpert, CEO of Nebelhornbahn AG.
Further development
Nebelhornbahn AG is also looking to the future and is actively addressing the effects of climate change. Climate studies show that winter sports in the region are secure for the next 30 years, but changes are expected that require continuous adaptation.
The qualitative development of the offering for guests is at the heart of the corporate strategy. Projects such as the renovation of the Koblatbahn cable car and the optimization of the snowmaking systems are intended to create key premises for future decisions by the end of 2024. Johannes Krieg, CEO of Nebelhornbahn AG, is optimistic: "We draw the fundamental conclusion that we are well positioned as a mountain destination in the Alpine region. The Nebelhorn, in particular, will continue to be the leading resort in the region as a summer destination. The average snow cover duration is no cause for concern either; quite the opposite – we will continue to be able to offer our guests the "white gold" from the summit to the Seealpe. Winter sports on skis and the snow experience are guaranteed."
New Chairman of the Supervisory Board
The Annual General Meeting was also used to hold new elections. The current Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Michael Lucke, is handing over the baton to the Mayor of Oberstdorf, Klaus King. Michael Lucke will remain on the board as Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board. The Board Members Henrik Volpert and Johannes Krieg thank Michael Lucke for the consistently good and trusting cooperation and are confident that this will continue with Klaus King.
