On December 23rd, the time has come: The legendary Ifen returns, completely renovated. Provided the authorities grant their approval
for the opening – the major negotiations for this will take place on Thursday, December 21st, 2017 – the new 10-seater gondola lifts Ifen I and Ifen II
as well as the new Tafel&Zunder restaurant will begin operating for the first time. One day
earlier, on December 22nd, the Heuberg and Walmendingerhorn lifts will open. This
means that starting this weekend, guests will have access to around 125 kilometers of slopes and 47 lifts in the Oberstdorf/Kleinwalsertal ski region.
More enjoyment – more comfort – more fun for the whole family
After an extensive, two-year modernization process, the premium ski resort at Ifen is entering the winter season with many new features. Last winter, the new snowmaking system and the new Olympiabahn cable car on the Ifen provided even more skiing fun. Starting this season, the two 10-passenger gondolas of the exclusive Doppelmayr D-Line will replace the old Ifen and Hahnenköpfle cable cars. "After only seven months of construction, we've done it; we're very proud of the entire team," says Augustin Kröll, CEO of Kleinwalsertaler Bergbahn AG and Managing Director of Skiliftgesellschaft links der Breitach GmbH & Co KG. Almost half of the slopes on the Ifen are natural snow slopes. So, lovers of fine powder snow get their money's worth. On the other half, the new snowmaking system guarantees skiing fun throughout the entire season, all the way down to the valley. The Gaisbühl practice area near the base station lives up to its child- and beginner-friendly reputation year after year. The Gaisbühl lift, in combination with the conveyor belts, makes it easier for beginners and little snow enthusiasts to get started in winter sports. The new mountain restaurant at Tafel&Zunder (formerly Hahnenköpfle) at the mountain station at 2030 m offers sizzling culinary highlights.
Over 2.5 meters of powder snow for an unforgettable experience
"Thanks to the high altitude, natural snow lovers get their money's worth here on the Walmendingerhorn," says Dr. Andreas Gapp, Augustin Kröll's fellow board member and managing director, enthusiastic about the perfectly groomed slopes right at the start of the season. "The cold weather and the heavy snowfall of the last few days have made for a perfect start to the season. And the deep, snow-covered Heuberg is once again showing its beginner-friendly side, which families with children and beginners especially appreciate," continues Dr. Andreas Gapp.
Starting next weekend, winter sports enthusiasts will have access to around 125 kilometers of slopes and 47 lifts. This means there are no limits to pure piste fun in the two-country ski region.
