OBERSTDORF. The praise came from the ministerial oath: "You are setting standards in mountain tourism," declared Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs Ilse Aigner, guest of honor at the inauguration of the new restaurant on the Nebelhorn summit high above Oberstdorf and the new, spectacular north face trail that circles the summit. "With today's inauguration, the Nebelhorn is more attractive than ever as a tourist magnet," declared the minister, who, at 2,224 meters, completed one of the highest summit climbs of her career. She paid high praise to the management of the Nebelhornbahn-AG. "I would like to see such attractions for Bavarian tourism," she explained. The appeal of such projects enhances an entire region. Furthermore, they make tourism and mountain experiences available to everyone. It is usually the mountain railways that spur a region on. Peter Schöttl, CEO of Nebelhornbahn-AG, emphasized that the new restaurant has once again opened up the view of the summit and, with its sophisticated architecture and new gastronomic concept, has made it more attractive. The summit station is the flagship product of the Nebelhornbahn. Schöttl stated, "Here, an appealing ambiance not only impacts the gastronomy, but is also crucial for the overall summit experience." The new north face trail is designed as an attractive alternative to a summit platform and will reduce crowds at the actual summit cross. The trail is also easily accessible for guests with physical disabilities, wheelchair users, and families with strollers.
Augustin Kröll, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Nebelhornbahn AG, praised the new structure as a "little elf in the Allgäu mountains," alluding to the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie. He thanked the cable car team and the numerous companies for their commitment and achievement in completing the project in eight months, despite sometimes adverse weather conditions. Designed by Vorarlberg architect Hermann Kaufmann, the building nestles harmoniously into the mountain. Ash was used primarily for the interior. The company invested a total of €5.5 million in the new restaurant. The summit restaurant has 82 seats inside, with another 296 on the two terraces. Parallel to the new restaurant, the North Face Trail was built, allowing a safe and easy circumnavigation of the summit and offering spectacular views down below.
