Good to know: The difference in altitude between the mountain and valley stations is 800 meters. This corresponds to approximately 266 flights of stairs!
After arriving at the mountain station, it's worth taking a break and fully enjoying the alpine atmosphere. The short detour to the summit and a visit to the viewing platform are not to be missed. The descent into the valley begins below the cable car station and leads steeply downhill on a well-developed alpine road to the first bend. From here, turn right into the sunny southern slopes of the Walmendingerhorn.
Enjoy the view
Above the alpine road, you can marvel at countless avalanche barriers designed to protect the ski area and the community of Baad deep in the valley from avalanches in winter. To the south, a panoramic view opens up of the upper Kleinwalsertal and the dominating Widderstein at the end of the valley.
After a short while, we reach first a fork in the path, and shortly after, a second. Straight ahead, the path leads to the Obere Lüchlealp – a dairy pasture where mountain and alpine cheese is produced and, of course, can be tasted. We follow the signs towards Stutzalpe – Mittelberg to the left.
Panoramic view of the valley
From here, the path, which now becomes somewhat narrower and more natural, continues downhill through flowery mountain meadows. Due to the sunny location, an overwhelming variety of rare alpine plants thrive here. The first mountain spruces provide pleasant shade in the summer heat. From some places, when looking back to the summit, you can see the viewing platform at the cable car mountain station. After crossing a few streams on the descent, the descent is a little steeper again into the valley.
Shortly before the Stutzalpe, you come across the wider alpine road again, which turns left a few meters later. Here the Stutzalpe invites you to take a leisurely break. If you follow the path further towards Mittelberg, you will soon come across the Gasthaus Bühlalpe, another charming place to stop for a break. From the Bühlalpe, the descent becomes a little steeper and more wooded before the last few meters lead over an asphalt road to Mittelberg to the valley station of the cable car.
