Start of construction
Despite the Corona crisis, we are looking to the future with optimism and openness. For this reason, after the first step of the quality offensive with the opening of the new Schrattenwangbahn in December 2019, this time will also be used as best as possible and the next step will follow. The construction of the new Söllereckbahn will be brought forward by two months, and demolition work began on April 20, 2020. With the early start of construction, the work is expected to be completed in time for the upcoming Christmas holidays.
Added value for the region
The regional construction companies, who are particularly pleased about the decision to start construction early, are pleased about the orders.
"We are very pleased that the mountain railways are relying on us as a local construction company and are thinking about regional economics. This encourages us and makes us optimistic for the future," says Gerd-Heinz Buchelt of Allgäuer Landschaftspflege.
Since April 20, all the old buildings along the Söllereckbahn cable car have been cleared out and completely gutted. After 70 years of operation, quite a bit has accumulated here, which is why the crew members have had their work cut out for them. The photos show some snapshots of the current demolition phase.
This week, on April 27, the dismantling of the cable car finally began. This involves carefully removing all cabins and carefully dismantling each part, either to be scrapped or given a second life.
The old cabins and numerous drive components will be shipped abroad as used parts. While an old cable car may not be rebuilt in the EU because it does not meet current standards, individual used parts will find a suitable home.
Starting in mid-May, the old buildings will be demolished piece by piece, and by the beginning of June, nothing will be left of the old facilities.
