Due to the suspicious, pipe-like object, the Zwerenalpbahn and Kanzelwandbahn cable cars were shut down, guests were evacuated from the mountain, and the affected area was cordoned off by the police.
After an initial assessment by the police on site, specialists were called in to secure the object. They identified the object as a geo-cache – a type of treasure chest used in a global GPS-based search game. There was never any danger to people in the ski area.
Winter sports enthusiasts who were unable to continue their day of skiing in the Kanzelwand ski area due to this human-caused incident can pick up a new day pass for the 2023/24 season free of charge at the Kanzelwandbahn ticket office until the end of the ski season upon presentation of a day pass/multi-day pass dated Sunday, March 31st.
