For over five months, the local mountain railways have been preparing for the 2020/21 winter season. A comprehensive hygiene concept was developed during the first lockdown in 2020 and expanded for the 2020/21 winter season, and day ticket sales switched to online to further ease the flow of guests. "However, the continued lack of planning security and the lack of prospects of easing restrictions from the government are two key factors working against us. It is with regret and a heavy heart that we have decided, in consultation with the two destinations of Oberstdorf and Kleinwalsertal, to declare the winter season over for guest operations," said CEO Dr. Andreas Gapp. "We have long advocated for a ski season for ourselves and our guests. We have expanded our hygiene concept to include important factors. For example, so-called rangers would have ensured that social distancing was maintained and that face masks were worn," adds Henrik Volpert, also a board member of OBERSTDORF · KLEINWALSERTAL BERGBAHNEN.
Spring/summer season planned
"Despite all the circumstances, we are looking towards the future," says Dipl.-Ing. Johannes Krieg, board member of OBERSTDORF · KLEINWALSERTAL BERGBAHNEN. Specifically, an early spring/summer season is planned. "We would like to start an intermediate season as soon as possible. We are already making preparations for this so that we can then operate throughout the summer. In order to guarantee this spring start, we demand the necessary entrepreneurial planning security – so that operations similar to those of last summer are possible," Krieg concludes.
