Oberstdorf/Kleinwalsertal, September 11 – The five mountain railway companies in Oberstdorf, Bavaria, and Kleinwalsertal, Vorarlberg, will be presenting themselves to the public under a new umbrella brand. The completely redesigned brand identity was unveiled yesterday, Sunday, as part of an adventure and family day. The central element of the new logo is a petrol-colored golden eagle.
"In tourism, you need to establish a clear position more than ever. This also applies to us as a mountain railway company," explains Dr. Andreas Gapp, CEO of Kleinwalsertaler Bergbahn AG. The merger of the mountain railways in the German-Austrian border region is now focusing on a strong, regional statement behind its brand identity. "The golden eagle is rooted in our region. At the same time, its altitude allows it to have a broad perspective. This is what we, as a mountain railway company, also stand for," explains Peter Schöttl, CEO of Nebelhornbahn-AG, explaining the decision to use the eagle as part of the revised brand concept.
The new logo was preceded by a name change in the spring. For over ten years, "Das Höchste Bergbahnen Oberstdorf Kleinwalsertal" served as the umbrella brand for the region's individual mountain railways. "We've always felt comfortable and well represented with this umbrella term. Now it was simply time to take a new path," explains Augustin Kröll, Dr. Andreas Gapp's colleague on the board of Kleinwalsertaler Bergbahn AG. The name OBERSTDORF · KLEINWALSERTAL BERGBAHNEN, combined with the logo unveiled yesterday, represents regional awareness and the unity of the five companies. A symbolic detail: The lower edge of the eagle's wings outlines the region's mountain peaks. This makes it a unifying element and emphasizes solidarity.
The positive response to yesterday's unveiling strengthened the decision of those responsible, according to Henrik Volpert, CEO of Oberstdorfer Bergbahn AG: "We didn't want to hold grand speeches and ceremonies, but rather make the new brand tangible for guests. The reactions showed us that we were taking the right direction." As part of a family day in the Fellhorn/Kanzelwand area, the numerous visitors were able to learn interesting facts about the mountain railways and the golden eagle at several interactive stations and, for example, experience for themselves how sharp the eagle's eye really is.
The Karlsruhe-based agency Schrägspur is responsible for the graphic design and implementation, developing the new brand identity alongside the supervisory boards, management boards, and the marketing department.
