We hike from the Höfatsblick cable car station along trail no. 4 to the panoramic viewpoint at Zeigersattel. A detailed description of this section can be found in the tour description for Zeigersattel. Hikers with a bit more fitness have the option of descending to Seealpsee from here to further enjoy the magnificent landscape along the lakeshore along a small circular trail.
The Golden Eagle - King of the Allgäu Alps
Those who wish to descend from Zeigersattel to the lake should follow the corresponding signs along the ridge (trail no. 4a). A wide, well-maintained hiking trail leads us downhill towards hintere Seealpe. On the opposite mountain slopes between Seekopf and Hüttenkopf, chamois and marmots can often be seen, which feel particularly at home here on the grassy mountain meadows with their abundance of mountain herbs. They have become accustomed to the hikers on the Nebelhorn and the cattle of the Seealpe. Only the golden eagle can dispel this peaceful atmosphere into panic.
A Mysterious 42m Down
Arriving at the rear Seealpe, we keep right and continue descending to the lakeshore. The path now becomes more natural and descends somewhat steeply. The closer we get, the greener the lake shimmers mysteriously towards us. Arriving at Seealpsee, we see this extraordinary mountain lake in all its glory. Seealpsee is not only one of the most beautiful and largest, but at 42 meters, it is also the deepest mountain lake in the Allgäu Alps.
Please stay on the paths!
After hiking a few meters along the left bank of the lake, we follow the circular trail, which now climbs again in a left-hand loop towards the Alpe. Please note the signs for the west side of Seealpsee (danger of falling) and the gliding path! Be sure to stay on the marked hiking trails! After a short and somewhat strenuous climb, where we quickly gain altitude, the trail flattens again and gradually widens back to the Hintere Seealpe. From here, we hike uphill along the same path to Zeigersattel and back to the Höfatsblick cable car station.
