At 2,224 meters, the Nebelhorn summit is the highest point that can be reached by gondola in the Allgäu region. So it's not surprising that the ascent and the stay in the summit area alone are an unforgettable experience. Those who want to experience the heights and the alpine mountain world even more intensely can descend from the summit to the mountain station via a hiking trail.
Tip: Circumnavigate the summit station on the North Face Trail. Spectacular views along the Nebelhorn North Face!
Starting point for paragliding professionals
For this, we follow trail no. 1a at the summit. In good wind conditions, in the ridge area, just below the summit station, you can watch daring paragliders taking off. Due to the often unusual thermal conditions and other launching difficulties, not every paraglider is permitted to take off here. This makes it all the more impressive to be lined up at the beginning of their flight towards Oberstdorf. We follow the trail further downhill. Here on the steep southern slope of the Nebelhorn, we begin the most difficult section to the mountain station, which can also be a bit rockier and steeper at times.
Once we reach Pfannenhölzle, we have the option of extending our descent a little further over the scenic Koblat, a plateau at around 2,000 meters, or of continuing directly down the well-developed, now easier, hiking trail to the Nebelhornbahn mountain station.
