The Ifenbahn I mountain station is located at an altitude of approximately 1,600 meters below the impressive Ifen Plateau and the geologically unique Gottesacker Plateau. Both are visible from afar in all directions due to their bizarre landscape. At the mountain station, the Ifenhütte, with its children's playground and sun terrace, offers a pleasant place to stop for a break.
A Stroll Through the Forest
The leisurely descent to the valley station begins directly at the Ifenbahn I mountain station. From here, the very easy hike leads downhill along a well-maintained forest road. After the first few very flat and still sunny meters, the trail soon enters a densely wooded mountain forest, which provides pleasant shade, especially on hot summer days.
Under the Protection of the Mountain Forest
A classic mountain forest grows very slowly due to the harsh climatic conditions. The enormous amounts of snow in winter and the often strong sunlight are often noticeable in the growth habit of the trees. In addition to spruces, it is primarily beeches, pines, and larches that withstand the extreme weather conditions. Such mountain forests often serve as protective forests, especially in Kleinwalsertal, protecting the villages and roads in the valley from avalanches.
Where the dense spruce forest thins out a bit or the path leads through small clearings, it reveals beautiful views of Kleinwalsertal. After another very flat section, the path finally leads slightly steeper over a few switchbacks to the valley station. Here, at the Auenhütte, you can reward yourself for the descent with specialties or lovingly prepared home-cooked meals.
