Overdose of Chlorophyll
The short descent from the Heuberglift mountain station to the Auenhütte at the valley station of the Ifenbahn cable car is described in detail in Trail Description No. 3. From the Auenhütte, a well-maintained forest path leads deeper into the Schwarzwassertal valley. The turquoise-green water surface of an artificially created body of water and the vibrant green, native vegetation of the valley basin create an intense play of colors. At the end of the valley floor lie the idyllic pastures of the Melköde Alp. Here, the path changes from mountain forest to flower-rich meadows.
Through the Melköde Alpine Pastures
The Melköde Alpine Pasture is located on a 1,350-meter-high plateau in the Schwarzwassertal valley. Not far from the alpine building, the Schwarzwasserbach stream thunders wildly over a rocky slope. The mighty rock massifs of the Hoher Ifen tower above everything, majestically illuminated, especially in the late afternoon sun. Upstream, the trail climbs through a mountain forest to the next, equally wildly romantic plateau. Here, the alpine pastures of the Melköde and the Galtöde, a neighboring Galtöde pasture used for grazing young cattle, border each other. The varied climb through a botanically valuable raised bog is strikingly lovingly groomed!
At the headwaters of the Schwarzwasserbach stream
The final ascent to the Schwarzwasserhütte follows a ridge that drops steeply into a deep gorge towards the Ifen. The trail, which becomes noticeably steeper and more strenuous, initially remains in the pleasant shade of numerous spruce trees and some weather-beaten firs, shaped by the harsh weather. Only the final bends just below the day's destination can become sunny and hot again. A flag indicates the proximity of the refuge. Just a few moments later, the magnificent panoramic view from the Hohen Ifen to the Grünhorn will make you forget all the exertions of the climb.
