Down to the Schwarzwasserbach
After the ascent on the Heuberg lift, you should take enough time to thoroughly enjoy the view from the summits. Along the Schwarzwasserbach, the elements of water and earth impressively come into focus, albeit in a rather limited space. There are two options for the descent to the Schwarzwasserbach. The shortest route, following the signs, leads directly to the "Kessellöcher" (Kessel holes). A variant extends the descent, creating a short circular route to the Auenhütte and the Ifenbahn valley station.
Insight into the Earth's Interior
Once you reach the Schwarzwasserbach, a geological excursion begins, offering visitors a deep and original insight into the rock layers of the Schrattenkalk. The stream has carved itself deep into the earth over hundreds of thousands of years. Rain and melting snow have dissolved the water-soluble components of the limestone, forming impressive formations. The water bubbles, gushes, and tumbles over the ravines, holes, and cauldrons of the wild, rugged rock formations.
Mystical & Mysterious
After the first steep and impressive meters, the stream calms down again for a short while. On a secluded, picturesque plain, the water temporarily flows gently and leisurely, offering the opportunity to dip your feet in the water. Afterwards, the stream returns to its original character. The roaring water, the mossy forest floor, the native vegetation, and the sunbeams refracted by the green leaves promise magical moments. Sloping sections are paved for easier walking.
Fun until the end
Further downstream, the path temporarily distances itself from the Schwarzwasserbach stream. Flowery meadows and a beautiful view provide a pleasant change of pace before a few steep stone steps descend to the natural bridge. This natural monument is characterized by the many erosion marks carved out of the Schratten limestone by water. After the final, exciting meters, a lovely resting area invites you to linger. Here you can refresh yourself by the water or enjoy the magnificent view from one of the loungers. From here, it's just a few minutes' walk to the village center of Riezlern. Those who wish can extend the tour or return to Hirschegg on foot.
