In the living room of the orchid
At the top station of the Heuberg lift, you are greeted by a fascinating view of the Gottesacker plateau and the Hochifen, as well as the wide panorama of the southern Oberallgäu. The first few meters of the descent lead along a paved alpine road over the Heubergmulde and the picturesque and flower-rich Schöntal valley. Along with many other rare flower species, the orchid, a type of orchid, clearly feels at home here.
Optionally extendable
The path then climbs steeply, wooded, and green towards the Schwarzwassertal valley. The dense, north-facing mountain forest ensures pleasant hiking temperatures for a long time, even on hot days. On the approximately 1m wide, well-prepared descent, there are short, steep sections to overcome. The short descent to the Auenhütte can be extended via Oberwäldele or along the Schwarzwasserbach and over the Schneiteich back to the Auenhütte.
Numerous possibilities
After arriving at the Auenhütte or the Ifenbahn valley station, there are plenty of ways to extend your trip. A ride on the Ifenbahn (not in operation in summer 2017 due to construction work!) takes you close to the geologically unique area of the Gottesacker Plateau. The Schwarzwasserweg runs over the Melköde to the Schwarzwasserhütte at the end of the idyllic side valley. Along the day hike (trails no. 3 and 5), you'll learn fascinating facts about the watercourse of the Schwarzwasserbach stream. Downstream, well-maintained hiking trails (trails 3 and 4) offer the opportunity to follow the wildly romantic mountain stream through gorges and over a natural bridge.
